In the radical fundy christian church I use to belong to, the minister would preach that "true" christians?

have a duty to destroy all evidence of any pre existing religions that have been dug up or found in the area.... as in anything found of a Pagan nature. All this was the work of Satan to try to "confuse" christians so it had to be destroyed. What do you think of this practice by the majority religions like Islam and Christianity to destroy historic evidence of pagan religions that early man practiced? If I remember right some fanatical Muslims destroy some beautiful Buddha statues in the middle east somewhere a few years ago. They blew them up. Christians destroyed many temples and shrines to pagan Gods and Goddess in it's history. What do you think of this practice?
