How do I make playing Guild Wars fun?

I'm new to Guild Wars. The game isn't any fun. Its just overly frustrating. I find the map pretty useless. I can't find anything that isn't marked (aka the city/abbey). The arrow/marking for the selected mission doesn't really help. I just can't find anything and, therefore, can't accomplish much of anything. Advice?
