How can your god expect me to have faith in his/her/its existence when I have nothing with which to work?

Nowhere in the Bible does it suggest we "just have faith". There has to be a reason and that reason is provided by the Holy Spirit starting with repentance. If you refuse to even consider the possibility of repentance while seeking God, then you will receive nothing.
