Do you have to be royal to get married at the Westminster Abbey?

Yes you do as the Abbey is not a licensed venue so special dispensation is given for the royal family to marry there. It also disrupts their services too much as they generally have 4 a day and would only change this for the royal family so in all it's history it has only been used for weddings 16 times and it's only really in recent times that it has come to the forefront for Royal weddings.
