My friend was raped.. how likely is it that they'll take this to court?

he was18 & she was 15.. it wasnt violent but she didnt consent. they took his bed sheets & her clothes for evidence.. it happened three weeks ago & theres still no word on whats going on. what normally happens with these kind of cases? will they take it to court? & if so, will she be notified, & will she have to go to the court date? what might be the punishment for this guy? we live in california.
