Anecdotal evidence: Is it true men aren't really dads until the baby is born? (men or women answer)?

In your experience having a child, how "real" was parenthood to the man during pregnancy compared to after the baby is born? Basically, did the man (whether you are the man or your partner is the man) feel like he was a dad already or a dad-to-be?
